Bonnie Buckley Art

About the Artist

From the Northwest, born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Bonnie always had an ambition to be an artist. Along the way, her greatest supporters were her elementary school teachers. They recognized her natural ability to draw and enhance her school work with illustrations. She always did it just for fun; not profit. Then her life took another path when she married and raised four children creating a whole new focus. Only after this stage in her life, could she return to her passion of creating art. After all, paints and small children do not mix. Now she is involved in anything that has to do with art, whether taking workshops, (“one never stops learning” is her motto), painting in her studio, and taking on leadership roles in various art organizations. She finds that fellow artists are like family.
Bonnie studied at the Portland Art Museum and Portland State University. She has also studied under such New Mexican artists as Boondy Wang, Lou Maestas, Grieg Chapian, Howard Wexler and Siegfried Hahn. She has also studied with other leading national artists and instructors. Her first significant art achievement occurred while in elementary school when she won a Gold Key in the National Scholastic Art Contest. Her artwork is in private collections from England and throughout the United States. She has exhibited at the New Mexico Art League, MasterWorks, New Mexico Watercolor Society, of which she is a signature member and Expo New Mexico.
Bonnie is an accomplished artist in transparent water color, oil, and colored pencil. Ask her what she likes to paint and she’ll tell you, “My subject matter for my paintings is any and everything that interest me.” She does still lifes, florals, landscapes, and portraits, (people & pets). She considers her style to be impressionist realism and delights in the chiaroscuro effect. Having lived in New Mexico for almost 40 years, she has a great appreciation for light and shadow created by the sun which most of the time was missing in Oregon.
Bonnie is accepting commissions. You pick the subject, she will do the painting. She treats her canvas with an open mind, loyalty, understanding, caring, integrity, endless determination and commitment to exceed all expectations.
